The public has spoken and “Aboriginal Canadians” will now be included in a book called “101 Things Canadians Should Know About Canada”.

Canada’s First Peoples were originally not included in the book.

The Dominion Institute then held online voting for Canadians to choose the top thing they felt was left off the list — and after more than 4,000 votes, “Aboriginal Canadians” finished in first place.

Spokesman Marc Chalifoux says the Dominion Institute has recruited Aboriginal writer Thompson Highway to pen the piece for the book.

During the voting period, “Aboriginal Canadians” never strayed from the top spot.
