The provincial government has announced funding to three projects under its Centennial Aboriginal Strategy.
The $1.6 million program aims to help celebrate the heritage and traditions of Saskatchewan’s Aboriginal and northern communities during the province’s Centennial year.
The First Nations Summer Games, hosted by the Kawacatoose First Nation in early July, are getting a $150,000 funding boost.
Another $150,000 is being provided to what’s being called “A Gathering of Northern Elders”.
That event is slated to take place in a number of Lac La Ronge Indian Band communities from June 9th to June 15th.
The province is also committing $60,000 to a television program that will highlight Saskatchewan’s art scene from a First Nations perspective.
It will include artists like Buffy Sainte-Marie, Allen Sapp and John Arcand and will air on CBC-TV this fall.
