First Nations chiefs and councillors are being challenged to increase their fitness levels.

Today, the Assembly of First Nations Women’s Council recruited the services of an Olympic athlete and former NHL player to encourage band leaders to exercise more.

Water polo star Waneek Horn-Miller and retired NHLer Dan Frawley helped lead a walk at today’s AFN general assembly in Quebec City.

The council says it hopes to show First Nations leaders how easy it can be to exercise daily.

They are also being encouraged to take that message back to their respective reserves and take part in a runner’s challenge later this summer.
