Aboriginal Input Sought For New Enterprise Regions

Aboriginal people are being urged to join two new enterprise regions that were officially launched yesterday.

Those regions are the 55 West Region based in Meadow Lake, and the North West Region based in North Battleford.

Both regions have about 12 people on their boards — but only one member on each board is Aboriginal.

Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart says he and region organizers are trying to change that by convincing Aboriginal leaders this initiative is a genuine effort to help improve the lives of their people.

Stewart says two positions are being held for Aboriginal board members on the North West board.

The enterprise regions are replacing the regional economic development authorities across the province.
