Aboriginal Fire Fighters Summit To Be Held In PA

Aboriginal fire fighters from across the country will meet in Prince Albert next week.

The Art Hauser Centre will be the site of the 2006 Indigenous Peoples Fire Fighting Summit.

Discussions will centre on topics including public safety, search and rescue and the differences between wild land fires and structural blazes.

Montreal Lake chief Lionel Bird says training and certification also stand to be issues of concern.

He says governments have traditionally been reluctant to treat aboriginal fire-fighters on par with government crews unless they have certificates.

Bird hopes the summit provides aboriginal fire-fighters with the chance to discuss serious issues amongst themselves.

The summit begins Sunday.
