A prominent First Nations actor and singer is encouraging all eligible band members to vote in tomorrow’s provincial election.
Tom Jackson, who was born on the One Arrow reserve, says there is too much at stake to leave provincial politics up to non-Aboriginal citizens only.
Jackson, who was travelling in the NDP campaign bus, visited the Beardy’s/Okemasis reserve yesterday where he urged residents to cast their ballot.
He says he wants to make sure Aboriginal people in the province exercise the right they have been given.
Jackson says First Nations people have been given a voice in democracy, and “if we don’t use that voice, we don’t have a future”.
He also says Aboriginal citizens have a responsibility to put pressure on those they elect.
