Saskatoon’s new Chief of Police received a traditional welcome from the First Nations and Metis community in the city earlier this week.

Clive Weighill says it was an honour to receive such a reception from representatives of the city’s Aboriginal population.

Weighill says he will do his best to continue on the path former police chief Russ Sabo embarked on before his contract was not renewed earlier this year.

The ceremony, which was held at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge on Tuesday, involved a “traditional swearing in”, a pipe ceremony and an honour song from an elder.
