A conference is taking place today in Saskatoon for Aboriginal employees of the provincial government.

Linda Anderson is a committee member for the Aboriginal Government Employees Network, which is putting on the event.

She says it’s important for First Nations and Metis workers to stay positive about themselves and their heritage as they slowly move on to more advanced positions.

She says too many people still seem to regard Aboriginal hirings as tokenism, and that needs to change.

Today’s event will be led by celebrated actor Floyd Red Crow and will also feature a tribute to longtime activist Jim Sinclair.
