The federal government is giving the Battlefords Tribal Council 1.5 million dollars to help build a new hotel and convention centre next to its North Battleford casino.

The hotel, which is tentatively being called the Gold Eagle Lodge and Convention Centre, will have 121 hotel rooms and a 10-thousand square foot conference and convention facility.

Indian Affairs says it has received strong support for the new hotel and convention centre from the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce, the Battlefords Tourism Association and the City of North Battleford.

The city has also invested in the development of infrastructure in the area and has approved a five-year property tax holiday representing an estimated savings of 350-thousand dollars.
