A coroner’s inquest into the death of a Pelican Narrows woman last year is taking place today in Pelican Narrows.
43-year-old Aileen Sewap was picked up for public intoxication in May of last year and died while being held in a prison cell at the Pelican Narrows RCMP detachment.
Coroner’s office spokesperson Lorna Nystuen says an inquest is held any time an inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.
The province’s chief coroner, Dr. John Nyssen is presiding at the inquest, which is taking place at the village hall in Pelican Narrows today and tomorrow.
