A Cumberland House man running for the Saskatchewan Party in the next provincial election says his party would seriously examine putting a nuclear reactor in Northern Saskatchewan if the party comes to power.

Winston McKay says the Saskatchewan Party is committed to a careful and well-researched study into nuclear power in the North if the party forms the next provincial government.

He says there’s no reason why the region’s rich uranium supply can’t be processed in the North if it’s already being shipped to Ontario.

The NDP government has stated repeatedly in the past that it’s not interested in establishing nuclear power plants in Saskatchewan.
