Thirteen licensed practical nurses will soon be working at hospitals in Prince Albert and across Northern Saskatchewan.

Dumont Technical Institute, a training facility that specializes in preparing Metis and First Nations people for the health care field, held its 2003 graduation ceremony last week for its latest batch of students.

Lyn Beaucamp is the head instructor for the program. She says its purpose is to address the shortage of Aboriginal nurses throughout the province, especially in the North.

The graduates have already started to report to their various postings, which include the communities of Uranium City and Prince Albert. Beaucamp says the program has alumni in many northern centres, including Buffalo Narrows, Deschambault Lake and La Loche.
