The number of Saskatchewan forest firefighters on loan in British Columbia is now up to 72.

Saskatchewan Environment sent 21 firefighters on Saturday to join the 9 already in B.C.

Just yesterday, the province approved the deployment of another 40 firefighters from Saskatchewan to help with the fires in B.C.

Provincial fire centre spokesman John Cook says while forest fire activity in Saskatchewan is down from last year, an extreme fire hazard in the southeast portion of the northern provincial forest won’t allow the province to send any more fire crews to B.C.

The Saskatchewan fire crews are expected to be in B.C. for the next 10 to 14 days.
