A northern leader is welcoming the renewal of the Northern Capital Grants Program, but feels the money should come from a different source.

New North chair and Buffalo Narrows mayor Bobby Woods notes the funding for the program comes from the Northern Revenue Sharing Trust Account.

He says yesterday’s announcement would have been more beneficial to northern municipalities if it had been new government money, and not from a fund that’s already designated for Northern Saskatchewan.

Still, Woods calls the program’s renewal “good news”, and says northern municipalities are anxious to get new capital projects off the ground.
