Yesterday was the deadline for interested groups in the North to apply for the first round of funding under the new Northern Development Agreement.

Last October, the federal and provincial governments committed 10 million dollars each over the next 5 years in a bid to increase northern infrastructure, employment and investment levels.

Groups that are eligible to apply include non-profit organizations, educational institutions and municipal governments.

Earlier in the week, Northern Development Board CEO Dean Desjarlais predicted he would receive applications for funding from 40 groups before Friday’s deadline.

The applicants will be short-listed over the next couple of weeks. Full proposals are due by July 25th.
