A new video conferencing system will be installed in various northern communities as part of a training initiative announced today.

The provincial government and six northern organizations are teaming up to bring the technology to communities like La Ronge, Beauval, Creighton, Cumberland House, Buffalo Narrows and Ile-a-la-Crosse.

Those six communities will be part of a pilot project that is aimed at providing a more efficient way to provide training workshops with northern municipal elected officials and staff.

The technology will also allow government officials to hold meetings with these northerners and save travel time and money.

A number of northern educational institutions are partners in this initiative and the plan is to eventually use the technology for distance education in the North.

The installation of the equipment at the six pilot sites will take place over the next few months.
