Over 100 volunteers were involved in this past weekend’s successful search for two missing people in a boat on Lac La Ronge.

The search was called early Saturday evening after the pair failed to meet up with family members at a pre-arranged time earlier in the day.

Search organizer Chris Rule says it appears the two young people, both aged about 20, were pinned down by a strong wind in the northeast corner of the lake after running out of fuel.

Rule says the stranded boaters spent the night on the shore before a plane involved in the aerial search spotted their campfire early Sunday morning.

Rule says this search had a happy ending partly because the boaters told family members when to expect them and also because their family waited only a couple of hours before reporting their disappearance.

He also notes this lake has a history of claiming lives in similar circumstances, and is urging boaters to take precautions before heading out.
