Major Players Yet to Come Through for Fish Plant

Construction of a new fish processing plant in Prince Albert is still tentatively scheduled for this fall, but project organizers acknowledge more funding is needed before that happens.

It was earlier this year that Saskatchewan Cooperative Fisheries Limited announced it had received the financial backing of 340 northern fishers for the plant.

Now, the main hurdle remaining is to secure institutional backers capable of paying at least 150-thousand dollars each for a Class D share.

Project consultant Larry Goodfellow says while there has been strong interest from three different parties about such a venture, no agreements have been reached, and as a result, no construction can begin.

Goodfellow says the parties showing interest are currently working with due diligence and are in contact with the fishers’ group. He adds the project is still in good shape overall and he’s confident the necessary backing will arrive soon.
