Leadership Race Not in the Cards for Laliberte

Churchill River MP Rick Laliberte says a lack of funds was the only thing that prevented him from running for the Liberal leadership.

Saturday was the deadline for potential candidates to submit their papers to run in the race against Paul Martin and Sheila Copps.

Laliberte says he would have gone for it, but a 75-thousand-dollar entrance fee got in the way.

Laliberte also says it’s not that farfetched to think a person from Northern Saskatchewan can one day be prime minister.

If he had managed to drum up the necessary cash in time, Laliberte says he would have used the leadership campaign to put the national spotlight on Northern and Aboriginal issues.
