Boosting Saskatchewan’s northern economy is something the new executive director of the FSIN says is at the top of his agenda.

Richard Missens came to the job a few weeks ago after serving as the director of business for the First Nations University of Canada.

He says tourism is one area that is helping the North and he intends to lobby the provincial government to make sure more parcels of land are made available to First Nations people.

He also would like to see northern bands establish more economic links with their southern counterparts when making purchases of goods.

Missens says his main goal is to talk to the provincial government and find out what initiatives it can offer First Nations people in the province.
