Members of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation are mourning the sudden passing of a long-time band councillor earlier this week.

58-year-old Angus Sewap suffered a massive heart attack during a speech he was delivering Tuesday night in Pelican Narrows.

Sewap has represented Pelican Narrows on the band council for the last 8 years. He also represented his home community of Denare Beach on council prior to his move to Pelican Narrows.

Chief Ron Michel says Sewap will be remembered for his role in promoting economic development for the band, especially in the areas of trapping, commercial fishing and forestry.

Sewap’s funeral will be held Monday in Denare Beach.
