An 18-year-old man from Grandmother’s Bay drowned over the weekend.

He was one of two people on a boat that capsized on MacDonald Channel near Grandmother’s Bay late Saturday afternoon.

The two remained with the boat until it floated closer to an island. They decided to try to swim for the island, but the deceased did not make it.

His body was eventually recovered around mid-afternoon the following day by residents of Grandmother’s Bay and Stanley Mission.

The RCMP say lifejackets were not used, and foul play is not suspected.

The man’s name has not been released.
