There will be some interesting races leading up to next month’s FSIN elections.

The federation has released the official list of candidates.

Three positions on the FSIN’s executive are up for election, including the office of chief.

Incumbent Perry Bellegarde is expected to get a stiff challenge from former Prince Albert Grand Council chief Alphonse Bird. Wes George of the Ochapowace First Nation is also in the running for chief.

Meanwhile, a couple of ex-vice chiefs are running for the office of First Vice Chief. Ernie Cameron and Morley Watson are among the challengers that are taking on incumbent Greg Ahenakew.

Incumbent 3rd Vice Chief Lindsay Cyr will be seeking another term, but will have to beat out five challengers to do it — including Tom Iron of the Canoe Lake First Nation.

The elections will take place October 16th in Saskatoon.
