Fire Burning Near Candle Lake

The Pasture fire continues to burn out of control just eight miles away from Candle Lake.

Fueled by strong winds the blaze, which was reported at one thousand hectares in size Friday morning, has now grown to four thousand hectares.

John Cook with the Forest Fire Control Centre says the size of the fire is also making it worrisome for fire-crews as it is narrow in shape.

Cook adds 20 firefighers are fighting the blaze along with nine bull-dozers and four helicopters. Three water-tankers have also been called in from out

of province to assist the other aircraft.

Cook doesn’t know for sure whether or not the community of Candle Lake is at risk, but says this afternoon will be a crucial test.
