Far North Road Proponents Eyeing New Funding

The Northern Development Board is in the midst of determining which projects will receive funding under the new Northern Development Agreement for the upcoming year.

Dozens of requests for financial assistance have been received and the board is expected to decide which ones will get the dollars by the end of the month.

One of the groups looking for assistance is the Athabasca Economic Development and Training Corporation. Project Manager Geoff Gay says the money could be put to good use if approved for upgrades to the Athabasca Seasonal Road.

Gay says the road specifically needs help at “problem” hills that are causing problems for drivers.

He adds securing funding for an additional road to Fond du Lac will be his group’s next order of business, should the development board offer them aid this time around.
