Cree Court Staff to be Honoured by Premier

Staff members with the Cree court circuit in Northern Saskatchewan are being honored with the Premier’s Award for Excellence.

Carol Ring, Donald Bird, Angus McLean, Carla Swan and Marion Yablonski will be presented with the award this September by Premier Lorne Calvert.

Cree court judge Gerry Morin says he is very proud of the work his staff do and is pleased his co-workers are being honoured.

Morin says the Cree court allows people the opportunity to speak in their own language, ensuring no facts or evidence are lost in the translation.

He feels that, ultimately, this concept benefits the entire justice system because it builds trust within the Aboriginal community.
