A Beauval-area man accused of squatting is defending himself in a Battleford courtroom today.

The provincial government says the trailer Norman Bonneau has set up near the Waterhen Bridge on Highway 155 amounts to squatting on Crown land.

Bonneau argues that as an Aboriginal person, he has the historical and legal right to occupy that section of land and call it his home.

The provincial government is asking the court to give it authority to remove Bonneau and his property from the land in question.
