The Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert received a bomb threat early this morning.

The city police say the local emergency 9-1-1 call centre received a call at about 1:52 AM stating there was a bomb located in the casino. The caller then hung up without offering further details.

The casino was not evacuated, but the police and casino officials conducted a security sweep of the building and did not find anything suspicious.

Casino official Richard Ahenakew says the decision not to evacuate was made based on information supplied by the police. Ahenakew says the nature of the call, as reported by the police, was determined to likely be a hoax. Ahenakew notes the casino won’t order an evacuation unless there’s a visible threat to client and staff safety.

The police believe the false 9-1-1 call came from a pay phone located on the corner of 28th Street and 6th Avenue West.

The investigation continues.
