Big Demand for Northern Development Funding

It appears there is no shortage of ideas in the North of what to do with the money the province and Ottawa are putting into northern development.

Groups had until this past Friday to submit applications for the first round of funding under the 5-year, 20-million-dollar Northern Development Agreement signed last October.

Northern Development Board CEO Dean Desjarlais was expecting to get about 40 applications, but ended up with 55. He says most of the proposals deal with training initiatives, and feels there are a lot of good ideas.

Desjarlais says a committee with representatives from the board, the province and the federal government will short-list the applications over the next 2 weeks.

The finalists will then have until July 25th to submit their full proposals.
