Saskatchewan’s Northern Affairs Minister says this week’s visit to Fort McMurray by northern leaders was the most significant lobby effort to date for a proposed road.

Buckley Belanger was part of the northern delegation that went to the city to push Alberta to complete a link from Fort McMurray to La Loche.

Belanger says he’s very encouraged by the level of support they’re getting from Alberta’s Northern Development minister.

Belanger says it’s now no longer a matter of “if” but “when” the road will be built.

Belanger is also not ruling out the Saskatchewan government putting funding towards the proposed Alberta highway, if that’s what it takes.

Belanger says Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert is pushing Alberta to commit to the project by 2005, which will be the centennial year for both provinces.
