The mayor of La Loche says the province needs to provide a living allowance for evacuees while they’re away from home.

Georgina Jolibois was reacting to a complaint from one of her residents who has no money while staying in a Saskatoon Red Cross evacuation shelter.

Jolibois says her town does not have the resources to provide a living allowance.

“We as local government do not have the same capacity to assist with finances with all evacuees from our community,” said Jolibois.  “La Loche is not alone in that and all municipalities evacuated will be in the same situation.”

Jolibois says municipal leaders need to raise this issue with the province.
