In his role as co-chair of the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs, Leroy Denny responded to last week’s RCMP cannabis raids by once again affirming Mi’kmaq rights to self-governance and self-determination. The 13 chiefs said they tried to meet with the provincial government in 2018 when cannabis was first legalized to discuss its sale in communities but were rejected. FILE/Cape Breton Post
