Missinipi Youth Foundation Scholarship Awards Recipients Announced
The Missinipi Youth Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee is greatly pleased to announce the seven scholarship recipients for the 2006-2007 academic year awards. The MYF scholarships program is designed to support and encourage northern youth to undertake post secondary educational opportunities in all aspects of media skills and electronic media communications.

“The Missinipi Youth Foundation (MYF) is very proud to partner with MBC (Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation) in this scholarship program. On behalf of the Board of Directors we wish the students every success in their educational endeavours”.

Cassandra Opikokew of Meadow Lake will be receiving $1,500.00. Cassandra is in her third year of study towards a degree in Journalism at University of Regina.

Vivian Merasty of Pelican Narrows will be receiving $1,500.00. Vivian is a member of the Peter Ballentyne Cree Nation. Vivian is entering her third year of Applied Photography Journalism at SIAST, Wascana Campus in Regina.

Belinda Nelson of Ahtahkakoop First Nation has been awarded $1,000.00. Belinda is enrolled in her fourth year of the Indian Communications Arts (INCA) program at First Nations University of Canada in Regina.


Katryna Smith of Onion Lake First Nation has also been awarded $1,000.00. Katryna is a member of the Onion Lake First Nation and is entering her fourth year of the Indian Communications Arts (INCA) program at First Nations University of Canada in Regina.


Lorna Bear of Waterhen will be receiving a $1,000.00 scholarship. Lorna is a member of the Waterhen Lake First Nation and is entering her third year of the School of Journalism, University of Regina.


Suzie Bekkattla of St. George’s Hill will be receiving a $1,000.00 scholarship for advanced graduate work. Suzie is a member of the Buffalo River Dene Nation. Suzie is currently working on a documentary of the 100 year treaty commemoration celebrations in Patuanak.
