Cops In Stonechild Case Suffer Legal Setback
Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 15:04
The lawyer for the mother of 17-year-old Neil Stonechild says the family is pleased by a decision from the Supreme Court of Canada today.
The high court has decided against hearing the application of two former police officers, Larry Hartwig and Brad Senger, who want the findings of a 2004 inquiry into Stonechild's death thrown out.
Don Worme says Stella Bignell never believed the officers' claims they didn't see her son the night in question.
Worme says the evidence compiled by the investigation into Stonechild's death is too compelling to ignore -- in particular, the conclusion that the marks found on Stonechild's wrists were consistent with those caused by handcuffs.
He adds further legal action from the family is likely on the way -- because the family wants someone to be held accountable for the wrongful death of their son.
