News Reporter/Anchor (Prince Albert, SK)

Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has an immediate opening for a News Reporter/Anchor to be based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

MBC is a progressive community-owned radio network serving Saskatchewan’s First Nations & Métis population.  Broadcasts originate from La Ronge, the hub of Saskatchewan’s North.  MBC is available in over 70 communities, including the three largest urban markets in the Province of Saskatchewan, creating one of the most extensive Aboriginal radio networks in Canada.


Working from our downtown Prince Albert office/on air studio, the Prince Albert news reporter/anchor would be required to:

· Provide broadcast-ready written story submissions with audio clip segments.

· Anchor MBC news, sports and informational programming (live or pre-recorded) as assigned

· Ensure stories are factual, current and aired quickly and accurately.

· Inform MBC’s News Director of any major breaking story.

· Generate interesting story ideas and bring new story ideas to the table daily.

· Develop news (and occasionally sports) stories as assigned.

· Conduct and edit audio news (and occasionally sports) interviews, write scripts and present the finished product in a timely and professional manner.

· Cover local news (and occasionally sporting) events with reporting on the scene or live as needed.

· Develop stories, investigating and researching a broad range of issues.

· Be available for any major event at any time as determined by the News Director.

· Prepare all submissions according to station format, style, content and philosophy.

· Be available to update MBC News online web and social media feeds with the latest stories.


· Applicants must be professionally-trained in radio broadcasting and preferably possess at least one year of radio newsroom or related experience or hold a degree in journalism.

· Exceptional written and oral communication and organization skills, including excellent knowledge of social media.

· A strong sense of community news and local involvement.

· Ability to work independently.

· Excellent computer proficiency with audio gathering and clip preparation/editing capability with capacity to troubleshoot minor computer difficulties.

· Must be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic self-starter who can take direction.

· Understanding of Aboriginal culture and issues relevant to First Nations and Métis Peoples is an asset.

· Excellent knowledge of local, regional and national news.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for accessing newsmakers and attending events.

Dene Broadcaster

Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation, with broadcast studios in La Ronge and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, has a full time position available for a Dene Language Broadcaster.  The vacancy is in our La Ronge office.

MBC Network Radio recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and is a network that can be heard throughout Saskatchewan including each Denesuline community in the province.  MBC also has television production studios located in La Ronge.

This is an opportunity to work with a professional team of broadcasters and become part of a growing network newsroom, with reporters located throughout the province.

Your duties would include:

-Anchoring live news, weather and sports programming in the Dene First Nations Language.
-Producing/hosting an informative magazine-style radio show in the Dene Language each weekday afternoon.
-Hosting recorded programming in Dene and/or English, as required.
-Traveling to MBC broadcast communities for coverage of special events and gatherings, as assigned.
-Researching, interviewing, editing audio content and reporting on current affairs and human interest issues and presenting recorded audio segments daily to MBC’s audience in Dene and English.
-Translating production scripts from English to Dene First Nations Language.
-Scanning for and sharing all news and current affairs tips from the Denesuline communities with MBC’s News Director/Assignment Editor.

-Fluency in speaking/communicating orally in the Dene First Nations Language.
-High school diploma or related equivalent.
-An outgoing and vibrant personality and a passion for storytelling, networking and public interaction.
-Ability to work under pressure and complete tasks with a high level of accuracy.
-React positively to listener and supervisor feedback and identify the difference between broadcast content that is factual and relevant versus rumor and unjust in a broadcast environment.
-Strong knowledge of First Nations and Metis affairs and Northern issues, history, geography and culture.
-Familiarity with computers, e-mail, the KLZ newsroom program/audio editing software and social media platforms.
-Valid Class 5 Drivers License with clean driving record is a must.
